Methodology, assumptions & source notes
  • Conditioned area equals gross home area less 250 ft² per selected garage space.
  • General load includes conditioned area at 3 VA/ft², two 1,500 VA small-appliance circuit allowances, and one 1,500 VA laundry allowance. The first 3,000 VA is calculated at 100% and the qualifying remainder at 35%.
  • Four or more eligible fixed appliances receive the 75% dwelling demand factor automatically. Dedicated cooking, drying, HVAC, heating, EV, and other noneligible loads remain outside that factor.
  • Runs on Generator loads are included. SMM Managed loads are initially shed and may remain unavailable. Locked Out loads are unavailable for the entire outage. Both controlled modes are excluded from the primary continuous recommendation.
  • Generator kW is selected from NEC-adjusted continuous served load plus the administrator-set planning margin. Motor starting is a separate review and does not automatically become continuous generator kW.
  • HVAC Soft Start reduces estimated LRA by 60% for the internal starting review; running VA is unchanged. Enter actual nameplate LRA under Edit nameplate when available.
  • Gaseous model selection uses published LP and NG ratings separately. NG output can be lower than the generator’s marketed kW designation.
  • Houston, TX Metro assumptions are fixed at 50 ft elevation and 100°F planning ambient. Gaseous output is adjusted using Generac’s published rating note; diesel derating remains product-specific.
